About me

Hans-Ulrich Häring received his medical degree from the Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich in 1976 and subsequently finished his MD thesis in 1978 at the same institution. He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Joslin Diabetes Research Laboratories, Harvard Medical School, Boston for one year before returning to Bavaria to the IIIrd Medical Department of the Schwabing City Hospital and Institute for Diabetes Research. In 1986, he defended his “Habilitation” thesis from the Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich. In that very same year he received the Bertram Prize from the German Association for Diabetes Research. For the next ten years he was both Head of the Clinical Experimental Department, Institute for Diabetes Research and Chief Physician at the IIIrd Medical Department of the Schwabing City Hospital. He was awarded the EASD Minkowski Prize and Lecture in Lisbon in 1989 and he furthermore became Professor of Internal Medicine at the Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich in 1992. He was appointed as study dean to the University of Tübingen from 2002 to 2006. In 2008, the German Diabetes Association honoured him with the Paul Langerhans Award. H.-U. Häring is currently Head of the IVth Medical Department, as well as Chair of Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes, Angiology, Nephrology and Clinical Chemistry, University of Tübingen. He has a publication record of 13,275 (without self-citations) and a Hirsch (h) factor of 67
