William Wijns
Professor William Wijns is a distinguished Science Foundation Ireland Professor in Interventional Cardiology at University of Galway. His research focuses on innovative techniques in interventional medicine, including invasive and non-invasive physiological measurements and imaging, drug-eluting stents, and multi-detector coronary CT angiography. He is committed to developing novel device-based therapies for cardiovascular diseases and preventing high-risk subjects from experiencing cardiac disability. Prof. Wijns has held numerous leadership positions in the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), including Vice-President, Chairman of EU Affairs, Scientific Program Chair, and President of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiac Intervention (EAPCI). He currently chairs PCR, focusing on adult learning, knowledge transfer techniques, and education science via courses and other educational activities. Prof. Wijns is also an associate editor of the European Heart Journal, covering acute coronary syndromes, coronary artery disease, and interventional cardiology.
